HistoryPiccadilly Circus derives its name from a dressmaker who lived in the area during the 1600's during which time he created a frilled collar referred to as a "piccadil". The famous statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus is one of the symbols of London. It was originally called the Shaftesbury Monument, having been erected as a memorial to the philanthropist Lord Shaftesbury. |
